I woke up at 7:15am, to the second day of what turns out to be a Nor'easter. At times, it's like there's paparazzi in my bedroom, from the lightning flashes illuminating parts of the room.
Like recent years, today wasn't looming in mind, save for thinking of it at times yesterday. They're up to the P's as I write this, the memorial at the WTC continuing in the rain, with a family member and a volunteer member reading each of the names of the departed.

As I watch CNN this morning, however, they announced something even some of the reporters can't believe; that the Coast Guard Coast Guard held an unreported (to the press) training exercise in the restricted area of the Potomac River, visibly in between the 14th Street and Memorial Bridges (which I'm watching live as well), while President Obama was attending a memorial service at the Pentagon. Early reports on CNN said ten shots may have been fired upon a suspicious vessel:

From CNN:
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- An incident Friday that triggered concerns about the security of President Obama on the eighth anniversary of the September 11 attacks turned out to be a training exercise, officials said.
U.S. Coast Guard vessels are seen Friday between the Memorial and 14th Street bridges on the Potomac River. Minutes after Obama crossed the Memorial Bridge after an event at the Pentagon, word broke that a U.S. Coast Guard vessel apparently was trying to prevent a suspicious boat from entering a security zone. There were reports on police scanners that the Coast Guard fired 10 rounds of ammunition. But a Department of Homeland Security representative later said no shots had been fired. The Secret Service said the president was back at the White House by the time of the reports of shots being fired.

One young girl just said "Don't remember their death, but celebrate their life". Her co-reader, who spoke on behalf of the volunteer side, appealed directly to Congress and President Obama for continued movement and work toward healthcare in support of the emergency workers and people suffering from disaster-related illnesses, which was met with applause from the crowd.

They're up to the R's now.
And tornado warnings have been declared for my area by CNN Weather. The day goes on.
